History:
Nicolas (Nic for short) had a pretty run-of-the-mill upbringing amid fellow deer people, about what you might expect for pretty much any human who also has the ability to turn into a full-on deer (an ability that certainly helps speed when vicious monsters of the world come calling). When he was ending his teen years he decided to move out and seek a career for himself, choosing to be an author.
His travels led him to a city named Bridgeport, where he set in with a modest apartment and started writing. His stories and books eventually got him some minor local notoriety, and he was working on going full-time professional when a trip outside of town went wrong. Coming across a powerful tree-like entity at pretty much the wrong moment, Nicolas was cursed with the inability to stay dead. He COULD die, but he'd almost immediately regenerate as good as new. Being terminally unlucky (we're talking the sort who gets struck by lightning on a bright summer day, from inside the house), this has wound up being both a blessing and a curse. After all, the deaths still hurt.
Nevertheless he persisted in his career and eventually left Bridgeport to move to a larger city called Birchpointe. Unfortunately not long after moving up he got mixed up in an anti-"demon" (person of magical persuasion) demonstration put on by a radical pro-human group, who kidnapped demons all across Birchpointe and forced them to walk down the streets in ropes and chains. Nic was saved by several fighters who sought to put an end to the hellmarch, but not before he met a good-hearted giant named Arthur. Despite his own dire position, Nicolas spent more to cheer up Arthur than man his own wellbeing, and they would go on to be great friends.
After the hellmarch Nic continued his normal, albeit cursed life. He would go on to meet that universe's Fluttershy, a kind fae living out in a cabin in the woods near Birchpointe. He was led to her by an actual deer of all things, while taking some time out in the woods away from society to decompress from the hellmarch. The deer led him to her home, where he also reconnected with Arthur. Nowadays he spends his time working on his next book, a nonfictional account of demons in the city.
Personality:
Nicolas is unfailingly kind. Aggressively affable. YOU ARE GOING TO LOVE ME nice. Of course, in the "naive idiot" way this occasionally gets him into trouble, but he's at least got a good enough head on his shoulders that he can tell the difference between what's trouble and what isn't. After all, he wouldn't be a very good author if he didn't know about, or even be able to recognize and acknowledge, the troubles of the world right?
He tends to have something of a sarcastic, self-deprecative attitude toward himself however. He'll put himself down (in a humorous way), certify that he's a loser, and laugh right along with anyone else on jokes at his own expense. This tends to stem from his unlucky nature, to deal with the fact that he has very few "good days." It seems like it's always something with him, from the minor things like paper cuts and knocked elbows, to elevator doors chomping shut on him, all the way up to having to dodge a speeding car on a road that was dead quiet 10 seconds ago. The occasional death-and-regeneration also feeds into this attitude, and he makes fun of himself for all of it.
This isn't to say he's a pushover, however. Though Nicolas isn't much of a fighter, at least on the level that he could ever hope to take on the monsters in his world, he does have a strong sense of right. He's never afraid to (literally) charge down a threat larger than himself. You can always count on Nic to defend the little guy; after all, he'll come back and you wouldn't, right?
Arguments with him tend to be short because of his niceness and he's usually willing to bury the hatchet if he does get into a long-standing tiff with someone. He'll also have certain days that're just worse than the rest, the "oh here it goes again" kinda day, where EVERYTHING goes wrong. He tends to be somewhat reclusive when this happens and spend his time alone rather than among friends or other people, and his mood's generally sour for a good while afterwards.
Overall Nicolas is noble to a fault when other people are concerned, but generally ranks himself lower than others and will put his own health at risk just to help someone else. This can make him someone you don't want to piss off, but it'll undoubtedly wind up hurting him in the long run, and whether it'd be just another "death" to bounce back from remains to be seen.
Gem Considerations:
Infinite. Nicolas takes a lot of his character development and inspiration from the white stag mythos (and in fact the deer form he possesses, mentioned above, is white in color). This gives him something of a healing nature and a desire to help everyone. Infinite would be a way of being able to actually access that and use it, in general and outside of his natural setting. It could also help him realize that he's just as important as everyone else, and he also needs healing (and to be able to deal with the fact he can die repeatedly instead of just going "Yeah that's a thing too"). This stone can also play into said regeneration ability, particularly with getting used to the way it differs from how he'd die in the setting.
It's also a bad pun on the fact he's basically immortal, since it looks like the word "infinite."
Power considerations:
The powercap itself wouldn't affect him much, except lock him into his human form. The different setting would also lock the growth of his antlers in place, giving him a permanent rackheh instead of the natural cycle they follow. He'd react... alright to this? Basically just "shrug" because he never used his deer form much (to the point most aren't even aware it exists), and the actual growing part of the antler cycle was annoying, often forcing him to solitude whenever the velvet would start shedding off. No one wants bloody bits everywhere. He'd prefer it if he didn't have the antlers at all, but he could certainly adapt to having them all the time, particularly with the right starting powers.
As for gaining powers, he'd pretty much take those in stride too. He'd consider it better if he got ones that could help others, and more physical powers wouldn't necessarily be unwelcome? He never claimed to be a fighter though, so he might not use those quite as much. Gaining new abilities would be pretty cool with him, though.

Name: Nicolas Chase
Age: Young adult body-wise, actual age unknown

Key Points:
- Born to your pretty typical family, save for the fact they're all deer "demons" (shorthand for nonhuman magical beings, as populous in this universe as actual humans, and reviled by fanatical types for their very nature)
- Average, if exceedingly unlucky, upbringing, decided to leave home around your usual time and moved to a large city called Bridgeport, where he started his writing career
- Encountered an ancient tree demon who decided he didn't like Nic's face, so he cursed him with the inability to die; it's not as great as it sounds
- Eventually moved to a city called Birchpointe to continue his writing career
- Was kidnapped and thrown into an anti-demon demonstration put on by the terrorist human group the Order of Albion that was termed the "hellmarch", where he met a fellow magical innocent, a giant named Arthur
- Once broken out of the hellmarch by several rescuers, he decided to stick around the outskirts of town for a while to recuperate. An encounter with a deer (an actual deer) led him to a cottage in the woods, where he met (this universe's) Fluttershy and, to his pleasant surprise, Arthur again
- Has been continuing his normal existence ever since then, spending his time working on his next book
